Ophthalmologist's Glasses for Eye Examinations - Lot 73
Ophthalmologist's Glasses for Eye Examinations First half of the 20th century Widths: 11 cm, 12.5 cm, 14 cm (one lens missing from the largest pair) Set of three pairs of ophthalmic examination glasses, made of nickel-plated metal, intended for the clinical examination of vision. The center pair consists of a technical frame equipped with adjustable lens holders, mounted on a screw-based system that allows for the secure holding and precise adjustment of corrective or filtering lenses. The hinged and adjustable structure indicates professional use in a medical office. The other two frames feature wraparound shapes designed to remain stable in front of the patient’s or practitioner’s eyes. Their ergonomic design allowed for prolonged visual examinations, particularly during refraction tests. These instruments illustrate the evolution of medical optics during the first half of the 20th century, a period marked by the standardization of visual acuity measurement devices and by the refinement of temporary correction devices.
