Gas Mask with Face and Broom Bristles (Curiosity) - Lot 58
Gas Mask with Face and Broom Bristles (Curiosity) Height: 34 cm Work exhibited in the “Face à Face” exhibition in 2011 This reimagined gas mask takes on the features of an expressive face, transforming a utilitarian object from the 20th century into a truly unique work of art. The circular eye pieces become hypnotic eyes, while a mustache made of broom bristles and a headpiece consisting of a broom head lend the piece a theatrical personality. Mounted on its stand, the object evokes industrial aesthetics, the Dadaist spirit, and art brut. The contrast between the roughness of the mask (weathered rubber and metal) and the whimsical fiber additions creates an intriguing piece, halfway between a cabinet curiosity and a contemporary sculpture.
