Dogon shutter, Mali - Lot 6
Dogon shutter, Mali Wood H : 33 cm L : 46.5 cm This shutter was designed to close the opening of millet granaries, an essential element of Dogon domestic architecture, where crops and precious goods were kept. Made of wood with a patina of age and use, the structure is composed of wide planks assembled and strengthened by crosspieces fastened with wrought-iron nails. On the left-hand side is a carved wooden lock. The engraved decoration on the lock features incised geometric motifs - diamonds, squares and lines - typical of Dogon symbolic vocabulary.
